Maldives Travel Diary – Faarufushi Maldives

Faarufushi, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

Clearest crystal blue waters, the most beautiful beaches – the best time awaits you on your Maldives holiday! You don’t even need to do Photoshop or use any filters here. I had to look at my mobile several times before I could understand that the picturesque blue sky, the turquoise water and the white beach are really real!

One of the newly opened luxury resorts in the Maldives is the 5-star paradise “Faarufushi Maldives” in the Raa Atoll, which is about 35 minutes by plane from the airport in Malé. From the airport Ifuru, it takes only 10 minutes by speedboat to get to the resort. Raa is located in the western atoll chain and is one of the larger atolls of the 26 Maldives atolls. The beautiful resort was only opened in March 2019. Here you can also relax and unwind yourself in the warm temperatures of the Maldives.

Welcome to pure Nature

Already at the arrival, one feels that with the huge area of 411 x 173 meters, something is different about this big island that sets it apart from the others. And truly my sixth-sense didn’t deceive me!

Not as with many other islands, where everything was torn down for the construction of a resort and again “put on,” here the resort had integrated the beauty of nature in it.

Already on the way to the water or beach villa, one has to take countless pictures of the natural style. Apart from the click of the camera, the roaring sea and the flying bats, one will not hear anything on the island Faarufushi. One will not notice the silence at all, as one already feels it right after the arrival.

My first Ocean Villa

The 80 private villas are located either directly on the beach or above the water. On the island Faarufushi, I slept over the sea for the first time! Our “Ocean Retreat with Pool” was about 163 m2 in size and shone in friendly natural wood tones. Every morning I could watch the sunrise from my bed and had a fantastic view of the sea 24/7.

On the terrace, we could choose if we wanted to cool down with our private access to the sea or in our infinity pool.  Often I just enjoyed the view in the beach chair or the bathtub in our spacious minimalist bathroom. I didn’t like to leave our water villa for dinner or discovery tours. It was just that blissful!

The way to the heart is through the stomach

With three restaurants and two bars, you can embark on a culinary world tour. I personally had several culinary highlights at Faarufushi Resort. The breakfast in the Iru Restaurant could be served directly at the beach – A fantastic breakfast with an indescribable view!

But this gigantic view was topped again in the evening at the Boli Bar and the terrace of the restaurant “ECLIPSE” with a pink sunset and exquisite grill dishes.

My absolute favourite was the Athiri Restaurant on the beach with its Italian and Spanish cuisine as well as Teppanyaki.

Apropos Love…

The Maldives is probably one of the most understandably famous honeymoon destinations. But pure romance can also lead one directly to getting a taste of being married!

Why? Have you ever spent 2 weeks with your partner on a deserted island? No?!

Don’t worry! Sounds worse than it is!

But with a romantic couple massage in the Nika Spa area, all small tensions on the body are eased away and simply forgotten. And who can’t relax and glide in the breathtaking underwater world while snorkelling together?!

But the Maldives is not only a dream destination for those who have just arrived from the registry office. Also a long-lasting marriage, relationship or friendship is a reason for paradise!

My Recommendations

  • On the Maldives the whole year is summer but in my opinion, the best Maldives travel season is in May, June, September, or October. In these months there is generally less going on in the travel world, one gets better offers and enjoys the advantages of the low season.
  • Especially in the low season, you can fly to the Maldives for 550€-600€. Holiday pirates have mostly summarized the best deals! However, you often get a better deal if you book the accommodation and the flight together.
  • Don’t forget the sunscreen! Especially on cloudy days, you can get the ultimate tan!
  • You can definitely leave the make-up at home! The #beachlife look and the softly tanned skin will enchant you with a natural beauty that will make any make-up pale in comparison!
So let’s get started with booking your Maldives holiday!

Travel Diaries Maldives – Oblu Select Sangeli

Oblu Select, Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Oblu, Maldives, Oblu Select Sangeli

Recently I was lucky to visit the warm paradise of the Maldives again – five splendid days of luxuriating on private beaches, basking in balmy weather and weightless freedom. The powdery blue Indian Ocean is home to this cluster of 26 atolls, shaping a tropical nation out of coral islands and layered reefs.

Shortly before landing in Male you can admire all the paradisiacal islands! Make sure you get a window seat!! Upon arrival at Male International Airport, I was whisked away to my island of stay by speed boat. For 50 minutes, I enjoyed an endless sprawl of blue sea and surprisingly, Wi-Fi! You can post scenic Instagram stories real time.

As beautiful as the surroundings were, one highlight of my trip was definitely my temporary fort: the resort OBLUE SELECT. Newly opened, Sangeli’s branch is the youngest addition to long-established Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts, a brand known for their many-star deluxe accommodations in the Indian Ocean. Emphasizing a hassle-free experience, the resort offers a comfortable atmosphere amid natural attractions and supplementary facilities. You can expect very quality service; the staff is extremely friendly and always ready to gift you with a smile.

Sangeli is made for fun!

I stayed in a Beach Villa, which tops the list of their various rooms. Think white-washed house with wooden fencing, straw accents for ambiance and cozy bedroom. The private villas are designed to be both trendy and traditionally Maldivian, combining modern luxuries with an airy feel. The best example of its dynamic design is the amazing outdoor bathroom, equipped with a showerhead and tub. The Deluxe version also features a mosaic tiled ‘pool’ that added pops of color to the clean space.

Of course, the Beach Villa’s winning point is that it is right in front of the beach. I loved being so close to the sea front, with a sandy strip of the beach smack dab at my door! It’s like having my own sand kingdom. There’s nothing more relaxing than lounging on the day-bed on the sundeck.

Making the best of this set-up, I spent most of my time in or near water. How could anyone resist the turquoise lagoons and extensive reefs? Snorkeling is a must. I enjoyed the beautiful corals teeming with small-reef fish. Professional guides (for both snorkeling and diving) will take you to the outer reefs as well as the inner lagoon for vibrant underwater sights.

You can sign up for courses at the TGI Dive & Watersports Centre. There are also a range of watersports you can do; I went kayaking as the cooling waters were hard to resist. And when I was fueled up on sleep and food, I played volleyball at the Recreation Center. If you’re feeling sore after a long day out, make sure to drop by the ELENA Spa! There’s also a yoga pavilion if you need to stretch out your muscles.

Speaking of food, Oblu Resort comes with two specialty restaurants: Just Grill, which serves fresh seafood and meat grills, and Simply Veg, gourmet vegetarian meals. I thoroughly enjoyed eating at their main restaurant The Courtyard, which caters a buffet. Their freshly made burgers are delicious.

And you can’t go without experiencing the stunning sunset at the sunset bar. Help yourself to the unlimited selection of beverages and watch the sun sink into a sky of watercolors. After a long, serene moment, nightly entertainment comes out to spice things up! I had so much fun every evening with their Music & DJ Nights – there’s even a live music show every week.

If you are currently planning a trip to the Maldives, I highly recommend an Oblu Sangeli resort stay. In fact, you should definitely take advantage of the great opening offer I found! For 2100€ to 2600€ per person from now until January, you can enjoy an all-inclusive 7-day holiday. It includes flight tickets from Germany, hotel shuttle services (the speed boat between airport and resort) and full coverage of food and beverages, as well as alcoholic drinks and cocktails.

You can also refer to The Serenity Plan on the resort’s website, which gives a detailed look at what experiences they offer. Apart from dynamic dining and free-flow beverages, you also get full access to the Recreation Center, seasonal activities, complimentary excursions and a one-time sunset fishing experience. Active people in particular will love it since they can enjoy a range of non-motorized water sports as well, such as paddle boarding, kayaking and pedalos.

Sounds like a dream right?

The Best Things to Do in Aruba

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

Are you looking for a magical getaway island where everyone is happy? Look no more, it sits right in the Caribbean known as “One Happy Island Aruba”. I’ll tell you everything that you can do on this most desirable island of Aruba. So, let me give you a verbal tour of this Caribbean paradise:

  1. Beach Time

Laying down as Aruba’s longest and best-known beach is Eagle Beach. This 25 km long paradise is also known as the third most beautiful beach in the world according to GEO and no doubt makes this place definitely worth a visit. Another earthly heaven is the beautiful Manchebo Beach, a place which oozes serenity due to its lack of too many commercial spots for the tourists, therefore, it was my favourite beach in Aruba. The perfect place for a pleasurable time.

Apart from these if anyone feels that they have seen enough of these two beaches, which I hardly believe can be true or even possible, can sometimes make a detour to the Mangel Halto beach. But be known that this place too lacks shops for drinks or snacks. All you need to do here is sit back and relax. Just gaze into the gigantic, luminous sunset and enjoy the aura of peace while being surrounded by a fascinating mangrove belt.

  1. It’s all about food

The best thing about food is that once you find something that blows your taste buds away it along the way also fills you with a feeling of sheer joy and happiness. So, I consider it necessary that everyone gets to have a taste of the great food experiences that I had.

Breakfast

  • Craft Café is an absolutely Instagramable café. Stylish location and modern dishes is the perfect recipe for a gorgeous photograph. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that it is delicious too 😉

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  • Garden Fresh Café is located on Palm Beach. As the name indicates this place is dedicated to serving fresh and healthy foods. This healthy hotspot provides you with exceptional smoothie bowls to everything that you might need for a fresh and healthy start into the day.
  • Eduardo’s Beach Shack is a thatch-roofed oasis for all the food lovers. It can be seen from afar with the picture of shakes in front of the small juice bar. The location is very touristy, which you can hardly recognize in the pictures, but a visit there is worth it. The bowls are not just dreamy visually, but their taste too is out of the world.

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

Lunch & Dinner

  • Bugaloe Beach Bar and Grill welcomes you to its sumptuous food menu from 7:30 to 0:00. Here you can enjoy a quick snack or a cocktail in a unique setting. In the afternoon, live music was my absolute favourite.

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  • The West Deck provides you with a memorable fast food experience by the sea. Also, it is not too far from the airport.
  • Barefoot Restaurant is now my favourite restaurant, probably because we sat here right on the beach and admired a wonderfully gorgeous sunset with great food.

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Meet me in the desert

You must have probably thought at some point that Aruba is just a small desert island with too many beaches and too little land. But let me rectify this fallacy.

This Happy Island offers real action adventures in the Arikok National Park. Our tour operator raced with us in a jeep through this cacti filled landscape. I cannot recommend that to you, because it is very shaky and a little too touristy for my tastes. However, I witnessed great trips in the desert on a quad. It looked like a real adventure to me. If you hire a jeep, you can explore the desert on your own.

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

Also, be sure to visit the Quadirikiri Cave until about 12 o’clock in the morning. Why? Because through the hole in the cave ceiling you will see this gorgeous morning light making its way in and forming a spot in the cave. It is an unforgettable place, where you can orient easily towards using Google Maps.

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Sail Away

Directly at the Bugaloe Beach Bar and Grill the catamarans, sailing ships and motorboats leave the island for a “Sunset Cruise” or a lively afternoon. We had decided on the lively afternoon and were absolutely not disappointed. 3-4 hours of great music, beautiful views, two long snorkel breaks and Aruba Ariba made the whole experience worth it. Our fun factor was 10/10. At TripAdvisor you can find countless tour operators beforehand otherwise you can also just decide on the spot.

  1. Embrace your inner Flamingo

There can hardly be anything pinker than at the private island of the Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino. The small island is divided into two areas and you will quickly see where the flamingos are because every visitor wants to take a picture with them. Children are only allowed in the morning for about 2 hours on the island. The day pass is around 110 € including the shuttle from the hotel to the island. It’s probably worth spending the night in the hotel if you get a good deal.

But let’s come to the mother of all questions.  Is it worth it to go to the island? For those who are keen on the flamingos, you should definitely spend a day on the island. The white and clean beach and the lonely hammocks are a highlight in my opinion even without the flamingos. But beware of the rough service in the restaurant on the island.

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Feel the Caribbean Feeling

The Aruba Ocean Villas are probably not the cheapest accommodation in Aruba but they are unique, small and just beautiful. Here you can switch off the stress and simply enjoy. It does not matter if it’s one night or an entire week. You live in an idyllic villa on the sea and hear from time to time only the waves beat. My absolute highlight: the beach bar.

If you are based in Germany, you can fly with KLM from almost any airport just to Aruba. The tickets cost between 600 €.

 DEU

  1. Beach time

  1. It is all about Food

    Breakfast

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Meet me in the desert

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Sail away

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Embrace your inner Flamingo

Fasten Ur Seatbelts, Caribbean, Karibik, Aruba

  1. Feel the Caribbean feeling

Travel Diaries Maldives – Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

If you have read my first part of my Maldives Travel Diary, you would know that we went back to the airport in the morning to take the speedboat to Kuramathi Island Resort. However, during the 1.5-hour drive, I had some problems with the waves and would recommend anyone to take a pill for nausea when you get seasick. With the incredible view from the boat on the island, we knew,  “that was worth it”! The over 1.8km long island has a lot to offer and is a #honeymoon goal!

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

We spent our three nights in the third part of the island in a two-bedroom beach house with an open-air shower. As I mentioned in the previous article, I love open-air showers. On the first day, we explored the whole island and were amazed by the incredible landscape. There is so much to do on the island that I do not even know where to start …

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

Best of our first day! I have eaten in many different restaurants, but none have not been as romantic as “The Reef.” The Reef is on the water, and all the windows were open in the evening, so we could not only see the moon very well but also every single wave and even a heron that occasionally passes the window. For food, I can only say that it was perfect. Very fresh, tasty and unusual.

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

The next day we started with a breakfast in the sun by the sea. The day could not have started better, and then we went to our favorite spot on the island, the sandbank. Here you can relax and enjoy. From here, we were on foot to the Champagne Loft. And have given us the first cocktail. Walked around the island to explore all the beautiful spots!

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

In the evening we treated ourselves to a spa treatment. And again, I was so excited about the beauty of this place. My first massage here was with sea view! A dream! The relaxation room is beautiful. I could watch the sunset every evening from these chairs.

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

Speaking of sunset, you must know that the Kuramathi Island Resort offers the most impressive dinners at sunset. There are so many restaurants there that we could have had dinner almost every night.

I was often asked if I would not get bored after just a few days in the Maldives. No, We had so many offers like snorkeling, diving, SUP, kayaking, windsurfing or other sports activities that we barely knew how to do. Be sure to check out the Eco Center and the “old” trees on the island; you will be astonished about what is here.

Kuramathi Island Resort, Maldives, Fasten Ur Seatbelts

We spent our last night in a water villa. I did not know what to do first because I loved every spot of it, so I first took a bath with sea view. After that, I had to go straight out onto the terrace and into the sea. How many times in life do you live right on the sea? We had to celebrate on our last evening first in the Italian restaurant “The Palm,” and we enjoyed! The end of our trip was as fantastic as it all started, and just before we left, it started to rain. A sign that the Maldives was sad about my departure and wanted to see me again soon!

I hope you noticed while reading that this place was an absolute experience for me. We had the feeling that all employees are happy to be there and love their work. And that exactly who teach one of them radiated and that made the whole stay even more special.

My first trip to the Maldives started from Cologne with Turkish Airlines. I could vaguely remember my bad experiences with Pegasus Airlines from Cologne to Dubai and was even more excited about our flight with Turkish Airlines. It was AMAZING! Not for nothing is Turkish Airlines one of the best airlines in Europe! Comfort, entertainment, and culinary highlights are highly valued and displayed! I recommend you to book a night flight. Time flew by, and we landed in Malé early in the morning.

Barely out of the airport, we were given a warm welcome by a Kurumba Resort staff and taken to the speedboat. The 10-minute drive to the hotel flew by! Right after our warm welcome, we went to our deluxe bungalow. The pompous bathroom with the open air shower would be very helpful to have at home. Of course, I would also not mind having private beach access from the bedroom! Since we flew to the Maldives during the rainy season, we were fortunate that we had no more rain showers than on the first day. But hey! There are so many possibilities on the island that we first booked a massage in the relaxing Veli SPA area. We were completely relaxed after the massage, went back to our room, got dressed and had dinner at the restaurant Thila. Both the fresh fish and the location were awesome! I recommend you to have breakfast or dinner here during your stay. Afterward, we went to the Kandu Bar for a shisha with melon flavor. Delicious yay!!! You should not miss out!

When the sun showed up the next morning, we were overwhelmed by our beach in front of our bedroom. We could even see the swing in the sea. We jumped directly into the sea and then rocked in the hammock. We spent a lot of time in front of our bungalow, but of course, you can do a lot of other things at the Kurumba Resort Maldives such as Snorkeling, diving, yoga, a sunset trip with dolphins or just exploring the most beautiful sides of the islands!

.

We were not bored during our 3-day stay. On the last evening, we were allowed to test the Indian restaurant “Mahal”.  If you like something spicy and Indian kitchen, you should definitely have a try!

Unfortunately, we had to leave the resort the next morning. Did you know that Kurumba Resort Maldives was one of the first resorts in the Maldives? Luckily for us, it was not time to go home yet, but to another island, about which I will tell you more soon. If you still have a question about our stay, please write to me as usual in the comments section.
