I have traveled, so far, in almost every country in southern Europe but, Portugal has been on my list for ages. This dream of mine came true in mid-September. After exploring the fabulous capital and the Pena Palace in Sintra, we took a rental car directly to the Algarve coast. Within 5 days we have not only discovered the colorful streets, heavenly beaches, and a luxury boutique hotel, but also a fabulous restaurant in the middle of a bay.

Make sure not to miss out the most beautiful places in Lagos for that visit some places of my “Must Do list” 🙂 especially, in autumn but, you can still enjoy the summer here.

1.The Narrow Streets of Lagos

Of course, on our first evening, I got lost in the small town while traveling by car. I would recommend that to anyone because the beautiful narrow streets are not suitable for cars. But they are perfect for strolling. In the historic center of Lagos, there are numerous colorful houses and many of them are covered with ornate tiles. If you are in town, make sure to stop by Coffee & Waves. Everything is just right here: coffee, breakfast and the décor. The chilled and cool “surfer atmosphere” spreads quickly over to every visitor, so that you leave the small café saturated with peace and relaxation.

2. Meia Praia

In the immediate vicinity of the old town is also a kilometer-long picture-perfect beach, where one gets to walk under the sun, in the sandy beaches. You can head there for free. After about walking for 45 minutes you will reach the Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel.

3. The Oasis in Lagos

Just last year Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel opened with 20 spacious rooms. Sea view can be enjoyed both from the terrace and from the bed. The quality breakfast invites you to linger on the main terrace in the morning. Their selection could be a bit more varied, though. But during the day you have a lot of activities to do. The golf course right outside the door, of course, offers you to play golf. My highlight was the quiet pool with a great view and not to forget the e-bikes. We could not have explored Lagos better than without the e-bikes. A whole day we drove through the city and along the sea.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend their room service. But, we have found two great alternatives for that, which are only 25 minutes away.

4. Food Heaven

In the restaurant Canico fresh fish is served in a rock wall, right by the sea. Here I discovered my new favorite wine “Vallado”. The service here is very friendly which you will experience as soon as you sit. Even, before the fish is finished, it will be presented to you again by a waiter. Without a reservation, it is difficult to get a table immediately in this restaurant.

Another evening, we were pampered in the hotel restaurant Mirandus. Located in a beautiful neighborhood, the restaurant offers excellent quality cuisine with a wonderful view of the cliff over the sea. We were lucky that we were there early enough before the sunset so that we were allowed to celebrate the regional dishes in front of a romantic backdrop. In addition, there is also a tasty selection of vegetarian, vegan and raw food.

5. Out-of-this-World Beaches

Directly in front of the restaurant Canico, you will find the João de Arens Beach. At low tide, you can even go through a rock tunnel and visit the almost untouched neighboring beach. If you are unable to see the rock tunnel from below, you will also have the opportunity to admire the breathtaking coast at the top of the rock and choose a beautiful spot.

The crystal blue water in the picturesque bay Praia de Albandeira has just fascinated us so much that it definitely belongs to this list. Again, it is worth the hike over the rocks, as well as the walk on the coast.

6. Discover the Tourist Attractions

The two beaches Praia Dona Ana and Ponta da Piedade are among the “Top 10” on TripAdvisor. They are both definitely worth a visit. Praia Dona Ana should be visited because of the long-known staircase to the bay and the view from the lighthouse on Ponta da Piedade also has something to offer. However, I would not dwell eternally on both the places, because they are not an insider tip. 😉

The Algarve coast has by no means has seen the last of me. With an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, the Algarve is one of the sunniest regions in Europe. So, let’s go! 🙂

Fast jedes Land in Südeuropa habe ich bisher bereist aber Portugal steht schon seit Ewigkeiten auf meiner Liste! Mitte September wurde der Traum wahr! Nachdem wir die sagenhafte Hauptstadt und den Pena Palast in Sintra erkundet haben, nahmen wir uns direkt einen Leihwagen um zur Algarve Küste zu fahren! Innerhalb von 5 Tagen haben wir nicht nur die bunten Straßen, himmlischen Strände und ein luxuriöses Boutique Hotel für euch entdeckt, sondern auch ein sagenhaftes Restaurant mitten in einer Bucht!

Also lasst euch die schönsten Orte in Lagos auf keinen Fall entgehen und besichtigt einige Punkte meiner MUST DO Liste! 🙂 Gerade im Herbst kann man hier noch den Sommer genießen!

1.The narrow streets of Lagos

An unserem ersten Abend habe ich mich natürlich erstmal mit dem Auto in der kleinen Stadt verirrt. Das kann ich keinem empfehlen, denn die wunderschönen engen Straßen sind nicht für Autos geeignet! Jedoch perfekt zum Flanieren! Im historischen Stadtkern von Lagos stehen zahlreiche bunte Häuser und viele, die mit kunstvollen Kacheln verkleidet sind! Solltet ihr in der Stadt sein, schaut doch bei Coffee & Waves vorbei. Hier stimmt einfach alles: Kaffee, Frühstück und die Einrichtung! Die chillige & coole „Surfer-Atmosphäre“ überträgt sich ganz schnell auf jeden Besucher, so dass man das kleine Café gesättigt und entspannt verlässt!

2. Meia Praia

In direkter Nähe zur Altstadt befindet sich auch ein kilometerlanger Bilderbuchstrand, wo man den Kopf bei einem langem Spaziergang zu 100% frei bekommt! Nach ungefähr 45 Minuten erreicht ihr auch das Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel.

3. The Oasis in Lagos

Gerade erst im vergangen Jahr wurde Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel mit seinen 20 großzügigen Zimmern eröffnet. Meerblick kann man sowohl von der Terrasse aber auch aus dem Bett genießen! Das qualitative Frühstück lädt morgens zum Verweilen auf der Hauptterrasse ein. Die Auswahl könnte allerdings etwas abwechslungsreicher sein. Tagsüber habt ihr allerdings eine große Auswahl an Aktivitäten! Der Golfplatz direkt vor der Tür bietet sich natürlich zum Golf spielen an! Mein Highlight war der ruhige Pool mit tollem Ausblick und nicht zu vergessen die E-Bikes! Wir hätten Lagos nicht besser erkunden können als mit den E-Bikes! Einen ganzen Tag sind wir durch die Stadt und am Meer entlang gefahren!

Den Room Service kann ich euch leider nicht nahe legen. Dafür haben wir aber zwei super Alternativen gefunden, die nur 25 Fahrminuten entfernt sind.

4. Food heaven

Im Restaurant Canico wird euch in einer Felsenwand direkt am Meer frischer Fisch serviert! Hier habe ich meinen neuen Lieblingswein „Vallado“ entdeckt! Der Service ist sehr freundlich sobald man sitzt! Bevor der Fisch zubereitet wird, wird er euch nochmal von einem Kellner präsentiert! Ohne Reservierung ist es schwierig sofort einen Tisch zu bekommen!

An einem anderem Abend haben wir uns im Hotelrestaurant Mirandus verwöhnen lassen. Das in einem schönen Viertel gelegene Restaurant bietet eine hervorragende und hochwertige Küche mit einen wundervollem Blick über die Steilküste aufs Meer. Wir hatten Glück, dass wir noch früh genug vor dem Sonnenuntergang da waren, so dass wir die regionalen Gerichte vor einer romantischen Kulisse zelebrieren durften. Zusätzlich gibt es auch eine schmackhafte Auswahl an vegetarischen, veganen und rohen Speisen!

5. Out-of-this world beaches

Direkt vor dem Restaurant Canico findet ihr den João de Arens Beach. Bei Ebbe könnt ihr hier sogar durch einen Felsentunnel gehen und den fast unberührten Nachbarstrand besuchen. Falls ihr den Felsentunnel von unten nicht sehen könnt, habt ihr auch oben auf dem Felsen die Möglichkeit die atemberaubende Küste zu bewundern und euch einen schönen Platz auszusuchen.

Das kristallblaue Wasser in der malerischen Bucht Praia de Albandeira hat uns einfach so fasziniert, dass er auch auf jeden Fall auf diese Liste gehört! Auch hier lohnt sich sowohl die Wanderung über die Felsen, als auch der Spaziergang an der Küste!

6. Discover the tourist attractions

Die beiden Strände Praia Dona Ana und Ponta da Piedade gehören zu den TOP 10 bei Tripadvisor. Sie sind auch beide auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert! Praia Dona Ana sollte man aufgrund der langen bekannten Treppe zur Bucht besucht haben und der Blick vom Leuchtturm am Ponta da Piedade hat auch etwas zu bieten! Allerdings würde ich an beiden Orten nicht Ewigkeiten verweilen, da sie kein Geheimtipp sind. 😉

Mich hat die Algarveküste auf keinen Fall zum letzten Mal gesehen! Mit durchschnittlich 3.000 Sonnenstunden pro Jahr gehört die Algarve zu den sonnenreichsten Regionen in Europa! Also nichts wie los! 🙂

Together with my mom, I explored the fascinating capital of Portugal in mid-September and summarized for you what you should see in 3 days.

Ihr plant also einen Trip nach Lissabon oder seid euch noch nicht sicher, ob Lissabon die richtige Entscheidung ist?! Dann seid ihr hier genau richtig! Mit meiner Mama zusammen habe ich Mitte September die faszinierende Hauptstadt Portugals erkundet und für euch zusammengefasst, was ihr in 3 Tagen sehen solltet!

Day 1: Visit the modern and historical parts of Lisbon

Before we start our program, of course, we must first enjoy our breakfast in the city hotel PortoBay Marquês. This is the perfect base for a city trip to Lisbon. From here, you can start your excursion every morning on foot.

For us, it started in the 10 o’clock direction towards Praça de Dom Pedro IV also known as Rossio Square. On the way to one of the most central squares in Lisbon, we strolled on the Avenida da Liberdade. This place, next to a beautiful avenue, displays the “Who’s Who” of the fashion industry.

Talking about the fashion industry, Rossio Square goes straight my favorite shops in Rua Augusta: Zara, Bershka, and Stradivarius etc.

From here, you can already see the Arch of Rua Augusta framing the Praça do Comércio.

Now, after the stroll, you have earned a short break at the sea. Be careful, because bags are often stolen or drugs are sold over here.

Recovered? Then resume your trip on to the historic city of Alfama. Just follow the signs to Castelo de São Jorge and enjoy the Portuguese flair on the way. Do not forget to stop at one of the numerous Miradouros (viewpoints), and enjoy the view over Lisbon.

At the top, you have earned a “Wine with a view”, one of the coolest inventions that I came by during my travels. A mobile wine bar that stands at almost every hotspot.

If you get hungry and thirsty, get off at the Rossio Square and either take the historic elevator Elevador de Santa Justa to Bairro Alto or simply walk the few stairs on foot or by tram. Lisbon’s nightlife is raging here on weekends, and even during the week, you will find numerous small restaurants overlooking the city or in a small cozy alley to make your day.

My tip: The little wine bar

Bevor wir mit unserem Programm starten, müssen wir natürlich erstmal unser Frühstück im Stadthotel Portobay Marques genießen! Der perfekte Ausgangspunkt für eine Städtereise nach Lissabon! Von hier könnt ihr jeden Morgen euer Programm zu Fuß starten.

Für uns ging es gegen 10 Uhr los Richtung Praça de Dom Pedro IV auch bekannt als Rossio. Auf dem Weg zu einem der zentralsten Plätzen in Lissabon schlenderten wir schon über die Avenida da Liberdade. Hier präsentiert sich neben einer wunderschönen Allee das „Who is Who“ aus der Modebranche!

Apropos Modebranche geht es vom Rossio direkt weiter zu meinen Lieblingsläden in der Rue Augusta:

Zara, Berschka, Stradivarius….

Von hier aus seht ihr schon den Triumphbogen Arco da Rua Augusta, der den Praça do Comércio einrahmt.

Nun habt ihr eine kurze Pause am Meer verdient! Passt auf, denn hier werden gerne Taschen geklaut oder aber auch Drogen verkauft.

Erholt? Na dann auf in die historische Altstadt Alfama. Folgt einfach den Schildern zu Castelo de São Jorge und genießt unterwegs den portugiesischen Flair! Nicht vergessen an einem der zahlreichen Miradouros, Aussichtspunkte, anzuhalten und den Blick über Lissabon genießen!

Oben angekommen habt ihr euch erstmal einen “Wine with a view“ verdient! Eine der coolsten Erfindungen, die mir auf meinen Reisen passiert ist. Eine mobile Wein Bar, die fast an jedem Hotspot steht!

Wer jetzt langsam Hunger und weiteren Durst bekommt, steigt wieder ab zum Rossio und nimmt entweder von hier den historischen Fahrstuhl Elevador de Santa Justa ins Bairro Alto oder geht ganz einfach die paar Treppen zu Fuß oder mit der Tram. Hier tobt am Wochenende Lissabons Nachtleben und auch unter der Woche findet ihr zahlreiche kleine Lokale mit Blick auf die Stadt oder in einer kleinen gemütlichen Gasse!

Day 2: Sweeten up your trip!

On the second day we wanted to quickly admire Lisbon from above before our departure and so, went quickly to the Eduardo VII Park. It is truly just a 5 minutes’ walk from the Hotel PortoBay Marques.

Having covered many kilometers on the first day, we earned an UBER ride to Belém today. But you can also go to Belém using the famous Tram 28. Why Belém?

Here you can get Pastéis de Belém the most delicious and traditional cream cake in Lisbon. Next door, there is also a Starbucks coffee for every Starbucks lover.

From here, you pass the Monastery of Mosteiro dos Jerónimos to the UNESCO World Heritage Torre de Belém, which used to guard the harbor entrance.

On the promenade, you can get at several stands a delicious snack and of course again a “Wine with a view”.

Lastly, if you’re already in Belém, you’ll need to complete your day with a sunset cruise. Not only the skipper was a real eye-catcher, but also to explore Lisbon from the water, is truly a dream. You get a very different view of the third longest suspension bridge in the world, Ponte 25 de Abril, and the city, built on seven hills.

Am 2. Tag wollten wir vor unserer Abfahrt nochmal schnell Lissabon von oben bewundern und sind schnell zu dem Park Eduardo VII gegangen. Er ist wahrhaftig nur 5 Gehminuten vom Hotel Portobay Marques entfernt.

Nachdem wir am ersten Tag zahlreiche Kilometer hinter uns gelegt haben, haben wir uns heute ein UBER nach Belém verdient. Jedoch könnt ihr auch mit der berühmten Tram 28 nach Belém fahren. Warum nach Belém?

Hier bekommt ihr bei Pastéis de Belém die leckersten und traditionellsten Sahnetörtchen in Lissabon. Nebenan gibt es auch für jeden Starbucksliebhaber einen Starbucks Kaffee dazu.

Von hier aus geht es vorbei an dem Kloster Mosteiro dos Jerónimos zu dem UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe Torre de Belém, von dem früher die Hafeneinfahrt bewacht wurde.

An der Promenade bekommt ihr an mehreren Ständen einen leckeren Snack und natürlich auch wieder einen „Wine with a view“.

Zu guter Letzt müsst ihr euren Tag aber mit einer Sunset Cruise abschließen, wenn ihr schon in Belém seid. Nicht nur der Skipper war ein echter Augenschmaus, sondern auch Lissabon vom Wasser aus zu erkunden! Man bekommt nochmal einen ganz anderen Blick auf die drittlängste Hängebrücke der Welt, Ponte 25 de Abril, und die Stadt, die auf sieben Hügeln gebaut ist.

Day 3 – Sintra – The Portuguese Disneyland

Everyone we met in Lisbon told us about Sintra and, of course, we went to the little village outside with great expectations. My only recommendation is that you should not drive there by a car, instead, book a tour. That way you save some time instead of wasting it on searching for a parking space. You are also led out directly in front of the sights this way.

Since we did not have much time left on our last day in Lisbon, we just went to see the Palácio Nacional da Pena in more detail and I have to say it was worth it. The picturesque palace is truly like you are in a Disneyland and in addition, it is a great photo spot. However, you should be there for a good picture before its 10’o clock.

At the end when one admires the view from one of the terraces and takes a deep breath, one knows that one will return to Lisbon.

Jeden, den wir in Lissabon getroffen haben, hat uns von Sintra vorgeschwärmt und so sind wir natürlich mit hohen Erwartungen zu dem kleinen außerhalb gelegenen Dorf gefahren. Ich kann euch nur empfehlen nicht selbst mit dem Auto zu fahren, sondern eine Tour zu buchen! So spart ihr euch die Suche nach einem Parkplatz und werdet direkt vor den Sehenswürdigkeiten rausgelassen!

Da wir an unserem letzten Tag in Lissabon nicht mehr viel Zeit hatten, haben wir nur den Palácio Nacional da Pena ausführlicher besichtigt und ich muss sagen, dass es sich gelohnt hat! Der malerische Palast ist wahrhaftig wie in einem Disneyland und zusätzlich noch ein super Fotospot! Allerdings solltet ihr für ein gutes Bild vor 10 Uhr da sein!

Spätestens wenn man den Ausblick von einer der Terrassen bestaunt und tief einatmet, weiß man, dass man nach Lissabon zurückkehren wird!
