In den letzten 2 Wochen ist mir aufgefallen, dass es auch Orte gibt, die ich nicht unbedingt nochmal besuchen würde. Das heißt nicht, dass die Reise schlecht war, aber von den Eindrücken nicht so impulsiv wie z.B. Kapstadt, Tokyo, Santorini oder Bellagio (Italien). Jeder Ort hat immer etwas Spannendes für sich. Natürlich ist es umso schöner, wenn auch noch die Sonne scheint, aber an den folgenden 5 Orten habe ich einfach Erfahrungen gemacht, die mich nicht nochmal dazu stimmen würden, einen Flug in diese Stadt zu buchen.
In the last 2 weeks, I noticed that there are places I would not necessarily want to visit again. This does not mean that the trip was bad but not as impulsive as e.g. Cape Town, Tokyo, Santorini or Bellagio (Italy). Every place always has something exciting for itself. Of course, it is even more beautiful if the sun shines but in the following 5 places, I have simply had experiences that made me to conclude never to book a flight to these cities again.
- Ottawa
Die kanadische Hauptstadt ist auf keinen Fall unansehnlich, jedoch wussten wir nach einem Tag schon nicht mehr, was wir machen sollen. Leider hat die Stadt meiner Meinung nach nicht super viel zu bieten. Wir haben uns damals (vor ca. 4 Jahren) einfach auf eine Wiese gelegt und geschlafen. Das passiert mir selten auf einer Reise. Allerdings kann man von hier aus ganz schnell einen Bus z.B. nach Montreal nehmen, was wir auch damals gemacht haben.
The Canadian capital is by no means unsightly, but after just one day, we did not know what else to do. Unfortunately, the city does not have much to offer in my opinion. At that time (about 4 years ago) we just lay down on a meadow and slept. That rarely happens to me on a trip. However, you can quickly drive to Montreal by bus for example, which we did back then.

Generell habe ich schon ein Problem mit Urlaubszielen, die von Deutschen überlagert sind. Zuhause sehe ich schon genug von den Kartoffeln 😉 (ich bin ja auch eine!). Die Kartoffeln waren aber nicht mein Hauptproblem! Eher meine damalige blonde Haarfarbe und einige der türkischen Männer, die blonde Frauen und Privatsphäre nicht akzeptieren. Meine Freundin und ich wurden sogar bis ins Wasser verfolgt. Seitdem bin ich nicht mehr ohne männliche Begleitung in die Türkei geflogen.
In general, I already have a problem with holiday destinations that are superimposed by Germans. At home I can already see enough of the potatoes 😉 (I’m one, too!). The potatoes were not my main problem rather my then blonde hair color and some of the Turkish men who do not accept blonde women and privacy. My girlfriend and I were even hounded into the water. Since then I have not flown to Turkey without a male companion.
- Marrakech
In Marrakech war ich ja vor kurzem zum ersten Mal. Hätten wir nicht so eine grandiose Unterkunft gehabt, wäre ich wahrscheinlich schon nach dem ersten Tag abgereist. Es fing an, dass wir ca. 2 Stunden an der Passkontrolle anstehen mussten. Daraufhin habe ich vergessen im Flughafen Geld abzuheben. Also wollte ich von draußen nochmal in den Flughafen hinein. Sollte ja eigentlich kein Problem sein?! Nicht in Marrakech! Dort muss jeder durch eine Sicherheitskontrolle, der den Flughafen nur betreten möchte.
Die Taxisuche und die Preisverhandlungen waren nicht nur am Flughafen eine Qual, sondern auch jeden Tag in der Stadt. Natürlich nimmt jeder Taxifahrer im Durchschnitt 5-10x mehr als den normalen Preis. Auf den Märkten darf man bloß nicht an den falschen Verkäufer geraten, denn er wird sehr sauer, wenn man sich doch gegen seine Ware entscheidet. Es gab keinen Tag an dem man nicht probiert hat, uns zu betrügen. Zu guter Letzt hat die Passkontrolle bei der Ausreise auch nochmal 1 Stunde gedauert. Fahrt also früh genug zum Flughafen!
I was in Marrakech for the first time recently. Had we not had such a grandiose accommodation, I would probably have left after the first day. It started that we had to queue for about 2 hours at the passport control. Then I forgot to withdraw money in the airport. So I wanted to enter the airport again from outside. Ordinarily should not be a problem anyway? Not in Marrakech! There, everyone has to pass through a security checkpoint. Even though if you only want to enter the airport.
The taxi search and the price negotiations were a torture not only at the airport, but also every day in the city. Of course, every taxi driver takes on average 5-10x as the normal price. On the markets, one should endeavor not to meet the wrong seller, because he or she will likely get very angry if you decide against his goods. There was no day they did not try to cheat us. Last but not the least; the passport control once again took up to one hour to be done with. So get there early enough!
- Rome
Obwohl ich die Italiener liebe, war ich von Rom total enttäuscht! Der italienische Flair war irgendwie nicht da. Eine Hauptstadt, die hauptsächlich für Touristen ausgelegt ist. Am letzten Tag habe ich sogar auf mein Mittagessen verzichtet, da ich aus Prinzip nicht in ein Lokal gehe, wo ich fast reingezogen werde. Schade! Auf diese Reise hatte ich mich sehr gefreut!
Although I love the Italians, however, I was totally disappointed with Rome! The Italian flair was somehow not there at all. A capital designed mainly for tourists. On the last day, I even gave up my lunch, because I do not go to a restaurant on principle, where I’m almost pulled in. Pity! To even think I was really looking forward to this trip!
- Moskau
Auch hier ist die Einreise nicht so einfach! Der Aufwand für ein Visum ist nicht gerade wenig. Allerdings hätte ich hier drüber noch hinwegsehen können, wenn es vor Ort besser gewesen wäre. Nicht nur die Temperatur ist kalt vor Ort. Man fühlt sich einfach nicht willkommen. Jedoch sollte jeder diese Erfahrung für sich machen! Ich habe meinen Flug nach Baku verpasst und mir hat vor Ort keiner weitergeholfen. Ich wollte am Schalter ein neues Ticket kaufen, aber das war leider nicht möglich. Warum? Weiß ich bis heute nicht! Online konnte man kein Ticket für in den nächsten 3 Stunden buchen. Also musste ich am Flughafen übernachten und mir wurde noch unberechtigt von einem Shop zu viel Geld abgebucht (was dank meines Kreditkartenanbieters erstattet wurde).
Again, entry is not so easy! The cost of a visa is not very little either. However, I could have seen over here, if it would have been better on the ground. Not only is the temperature cold on the spot. You just do not feel welcome. However, everyone should have this experience for themselves! I missed my flight to Baku and nobody helped me on the spot. I wanted to buy a new ticket at the counter but unfortunately that was not possible. Why? I do not know even till today! Online you could not book a ticket for in the next 3 hours. So I had to stay at the airport over night…
