Is Valencia the new Barcelona?

In my Instastories, I always see that everyone flies to Barcelona. There are many interesting alternatives in Spain. One of them is the city on the Mediterranean: Valencia. Valencia not only attracts with its perfect beaches, beautiful architecture but also with its famous “Mercado Central.”
The third largest city in Spain is by far not as touristy as Barcelona, and there is plenty to explore!

What to do:

Mercado Central

The “Mercado Central” is hard to miss or overhear. The fish counters sell fresh fish, mussels, shrimp, and octopus. A lobster tried to escape from a box next to me. But the market hall sells not only fish but also fresh fruit, smoothies, vegetables, meat and many sweet delicacies. For the thirsty ones, there are also different wine tastings.

Sightseeing

Wherever you are in Valencia, just walk the streets and enjoy the different architecture. Definitely worth a visit to the Miguelete tower and enjoy the view over Valencia. It is located next to the Cathedral of Valencia. Another possibility to admire the city from above is the largest city gate of Valencia “Torres de Serranos.” In the end, you should also stop by the “Plaza de la Reina” Here you will find countless shopping opportunities nearby!

Eat authentic Paella

Paella is not only a must in Valencia but every time you visit Spain. But do you know that Paella is from the Valencia region? We ate in a restaurant near our accommodation, and I can only say that the price/performance ratio was right! Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name … But it was near “Lonja de Valencia!”

Go to Cafe Dulce de Leche

I do not know the last time I had such a generous and cheap breakfast. It was really hard for me to decide between the Oreo or the Nutella cake! That’s why we were there twice. Come early at the weekend. Otherwise, a long line awaits you! Cafe Dulce de Leche is in great demand! I can also recommend the croissants, the banana bread or a bagel with salmon! The cafe is located in the Russafa district, known for its numerous cafes, colorful buildings, and second-hand shops.

Have a look at the future!

The City of Arts and Sciences, “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias,” impresses everyone with its unique futuristic architecture. For kids and me, some cool water activities were also offered. The small futuristic city is located next to a beautiful green area!

Where to stay?

Happy Apartments Valencia

In the middle of the old town is the spacious “Happy Apartments Valencia.” We were lucky and found a free car park just 5 minutes away from our apartment on a side street. With the colored road marking, you can see where you can park for free and where not. But you can unload the luggage directly in front of the accommodation by car.
The apartments have everything you need for a stay in Valencia: bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom and a roof terrace. Our apartment was so big that we could have stayed there with four of us!
The Mercado Central is within walking distance!
